about us

Can-teen Support GroupCan-Teen is a support group for adolescents, ages 13-19, who are currently in treatment for cancer or who have finished treatment within the last year.

It was founded in 1993 by Children's Hospital child life specialists, Michelle Militzer and Lynn Hadley, and teenagers with cancer and is funded by a grant from Children's Chance.

Can-Teen brings teens with cancer together to share experiences, learn from each other and help others recently diagnosed with cancer.

It offers opportunities for teens to meet other teens living with cancer and to hear from other survivors. It's a fun group that offers information on cancer resources and promotes well-being and leadership.

An important principle of Can-Teen is that its members take ownership and leadership of the group. You plan our meetings, coordinate our activities and provide us with feedback on what works and what doesn't.

Our activities include creating a monthly newsletter, a teen-visiting program for newly diagnosed teens, local get-togethers, weekend retreats, and other special events.

Can-Teen meets for lunch on the third Wednesday of every month from noon to 2 p.m., in the 4th floor clinic in Rutledge Tower at Children's Hospital.
